Volleyball
St. Gabriel students have the opportunity to begin playing volleyball in 5th grade—a full two years earlier than nearby public schools. While all coaches are volunteers, St. Gabe's has a great mix of experienced coaches, some of whom coach during the winter at local volleyball clubs.
Girls’ volleyball begins the first week of August and lasts through late October. During these periods, there are usually three or four practices or games per week. Volleyball does not typically interfere with other Saint Gabe's sports including basketball, cross country, or cheerleading.
Any girl between 5th and 8th grade may register. Junior Varsity consists of athletes in 5th and 6th grade, and 7th and 8th graders are Varsity. If a sufficient number of athletes sign up, multiple teams may be fielded to allow for smaller rosters and more playing time.
The Pittsburgh Diocese Girls Volleyball League typically fields over 50 teams and each season culminates with a 16-team championship tournament for Varsity and Junior Varsity.
