Arts
There are a variety of opportunities for students to be involved in the arts at St. Gabriel School, whether they play an instrument, sing, or act.
Beginner and Advanced Band
Towards the end of 3rd grade, students are given the opportunity to choose an instrument if they would like to participate in the band program. Instruments include flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and drums. Instrument lessons are provided by Mr. Tom Booth. Students in 4th grade are members of Beginner Band. Students in 5th through 8th grade are members of Advanced Band. Students meet with Mr. Booth to rehearse once a week during the school day. Mr. Booth expects the students to practice daily on their own time. In December and May, the band participates in a combined concert with other Catholic schools in the area. On the same day of the concerts, during the school day, the band also travels to each participating school to perform a band assembly.
Choir
The choir at St. Gabriel School is made up students from Grades 3 through 8. The choir sings at school masses, which are at least every Thursday at 8:45 a.m. The choir also has the opportunity to occasionally sing at a Sunday mass.
Musical Theater
Each year, St. Gabriel School performs a Broadway musical in the month of May. Students audition for roles, and those that are cast are required to pay a $75 fee to participate in the program. Tryouts and rehearsals start in January, and students receive five months of instruction from our directors, Ray and Jeanie Cygrymus. The fee helps to offset the costs of costumes, sets, props, and technical fees associated with the musical. As with any program at SGS, we will not turn anyone away based on financial need, so please contact the Directors if you have extenuating circumstances.
Middle school students also have the opportunity to participate in the stage crew, helping to create sets, costumes, and work backstage during the musical.
